Heating St John’s Ashe Street,
Unfortunately we had difficulties with the heating system in Tralee over the Christmas period, with complete crash on Christmas day.
The gas system has served the parish well for many years and we are hopeful that we can breath new life into. We have been investigating possibilities, and this recent experience has helped to focus our thoughts a little more. We had been thinking about fans in the roof space to direct the heat, which rises back down to the seating area where it is needed.
We may need to fundraise !
Confirmation.
This morning we welcome those who will be confirmed and their parents from the various churches in our parish to Tralee to begin preparation for confirmation, which will be held on the 12th May.
Healer Prayer Service:
Tuesday February 5th at 8 PM in Teach an tSolais, followed by tea and fellowship. Please email marion.hogan@hotmail.com to have names included or else write the names in the black notebooks at the back of each church. Our love and prayers to all who are unwell, especially those receiving treatment at this time, and also to their families and friends.
Links Ladies
Links Ladies met on Monday the 28th Jan in Teach an tSolais at 8 pm. The theme of the meeting was 'Links through the years' when the group reminisced about their favourite memories from the many and varied gatherings over the past number of years.
The next meeting will be on Monday February 25th at 8 pm in Teach an tSolais which will be an Oriflame cosmetics evening.
The evening is open to everyone so please come along and bring a friend!
Congratulations:
To Ivan Groves who supplies Lee Strand, on winning his recent award for the quality of his milk.
Sunday Clubs:
Sunday Club will meet on the 3rd and 16th February in Tralee during the morning service
And in Ballymacelligott on the 10th and 24th February.
Many thanks to the parents and leaders who organise and support this valuable ministry among our primary school children.
Something to ponder.
Friday was the feast of
St Brigid of Kildare. It can be a forgotten feast
day but very important as we celebrate the
achievements of a remarkable woman. Born in 454 she
is famous for her hospitality, her generosity, her
concern for the poor, her ability to stand up to
those in authority and her unique ability to get
what she wanted.
She is most famous for her St Brigid cross which she wove together using rushes. The many strands that make up a St Brigid’s cross represent the different strands of our own lives. They pick up on our joys and blessings but also on our struggles, problems and difficulties.
For Brigid the cross was not an end in itself but pointed to a firm and sure hope in a loving God. For Brigid this loving God helps us to make sense of everything that’s going on in our lives. St.Brigid’s day reminds us that the dark days of winter are nearly over and that hopefully spring is just around the corner.
This is an old Irish prayer to St Brigid.
A Naomh Bríd, a Mhuire na nGael, scar orainn do bhrat. A Naomh Bríd, a chroí na féile, stiúir sinn ar an mbóthar ceart
St.Brigid, mother of the Irish, spread your cloak over us, St.Brigid, heart of the faithful, direct us on the right road.
Mid Week Holy Communion:
The Holy Communion is celebrated every week at 11am in St Johns Church. This is a short and informal service and is followed by tea and coffee in the Ashe hotel which enables fellowship and leads to friendship.
This service can also provide an opportunity for worship for those who have other demands on Sunday or are working on Sunday.
We are joined once a
month by the staff and children in St Johns school.
So if you are free for thirty minutes on a wednesday
morning then we would love to welcome you.
Collect of Morning Prayer.
Go before us, Lord, in all our doings, with your most gracious favour, and further us with your continual help; that in all our works begun, continued and ended in you, we may glorify your holy name, and finally by your mercy attain everlasting life; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
