Sympathy is extended to the family of the Bob Fitzsimons and his family on the death of his mother Mary in her 97th Year.  Her funeral service took place in Kinsale.

We also extend our sympathy to the Blennerhassett family of Gortalea on the death of Edie McBride nee Blennerhassett in Bangor. Edie taught in the old school in Ballymac many years ago.

Congratulations to Margaret and John Groves who celebrated their golden wedding anniversary with their family recently, we wish them continued good health and happiness in the years ahead..

We also offer our good wishes to Billy and Alice Mason who celebrated 66 years of married life and Stella and Willie Linehan who celebrated 59 years of married life.

Rose of Tralee, The Rose of Tralee festival will take place a week later this year and once again this will be a welcome boost for the town and its hinterland.

There will be a united service in St Johns on Sunday, 25th July at 10.45am.

I have been advised that some of the Roses and their entourage will join us for this service.

This is lovely tradition and it would great if a good crowd of parishioners were in Church to welcome our guests.

Installation of Rector:

The Rev Jim was installed as Rector of Camp and Dingle during the morning service on the 14th July.

Jim was joined by Elsie and his three daughters .The Bishop presided at the Holy Communion and preached. The service was followed by refreshments in Teach an tSolais. Robert Groves spoke on behalf of the parish and much to Jim’s surprise gifts were presented to himself and Elsie to mark the occasion.

Rev Jim would like to thank everyone who helped to made the day special, for the thoughtful gifts and for the generous words that were spoken.

Hospital Visits:

We would like to encourage parishioners to let us know if they would like a visit from the clergy while in hospital.

The clergy are not informed by the hospital authorities when parishioners are admitted, so we are dependent on family and friends for such information.

We are regularily in the hospitals and nursing homes and we are happy to visit and consider it very much part of our pastoral duties.

However we also respect parishioners right to privacy in such matters.

Former Clergy,

We received a visit from Suzanne Pontifex from Busselton, Western Australia, whose great grandfather, William Foley, was rector in St. John's in the 1920s.  Her beloved Grandmother was born in the Rectory and moved to Australia after her marriage. Suzanne was accompanied by her husband, son, daughter-in-law and granddaughter.  She was delighted to see the church where her Grandmother worshipped.

Another Clerical visitor was the Rev William Pike and his wife Mary , William served the parish as a young Rector from 1972 to 1975 before leaving for further theological training in the USA. The family emigrated to Vancouver in 1980, where he served as rector in two parishes before moving to a large parish in Calgary, Alberta. He is now retired and lives in Cowichan Valley on Vancouver Island.

Poets' Corner As usual on Bank Holiday Monday 3 pm to 6 pm in Teach an tSolas.

Notes from the West.

The wedding of Eoin Martin and Sarah O'Donoghue took place on 11th July at St. James Church, Dingle.  The service was celebrated by Revd. Mairt Hanley, Revd. Phyllis and Father Eugene Kiely. Eoin's brother and sister travelled from Australia and New Zealand to attend the service,  which was followed by a reception at the Skellig Hotel .  Congratulations and best wishes to Eoin and Sarah.

The Baptism of Oisin William Martin O'Donnell was held at Kilgobbin Church, Camp on Sunday 14th July, by Revd. Phyllis, who performed the baptism using water brought by Oisin's nanna and grandad from the River Jordan.  Mum and dad, Patrick and Joanna, were delighted that Joanna's brother and sister from New Zealand and Australia, who travelled to Ireland for Eoin & Sarah's wedding, were here for the baptism.  It was a very special family occasion.

Camp parishioner, Ellen Knapp,  who is moving back to the U.S.A, is holding a House Moving Sale,  in Camp Old School,  on Saturday, Sunday and Monday, 3rd, 4th, 5th August, 1 am to 5 pm to include furniture, china, glassware, linens, cutlery, wicker baskets and miscellaneous household items.

Please support a Fun Day organised by Jamie Knox Watersports in aid of repairs to Killiney Church, Castlegregory, on Saturday 10th August, 2.00 - 4.00 pm.  Trampoline, Kayaks, Paddle Boats, Surfing, Stand up Paddle Boarding, among the activities available.  Have a great time whilst supporting the much needed Church Repairs.

A Prayer

O living God, draw all the fragments of my life into the bright mosaic of your love;

weave all the tangled threads of my desires into the tapestry you are spreading,

like a rainbow, on the loom of the world; and help me celebrate the many facets and the dazzling colours of your peace.  (by Julie M. Hulme)
