Tralee & Dingle Newsletter June 2018

Family Service:

On Sunday the 10^th June a family service will be held in St Johns to mark the end of the Sunday Club season.

Bibles and bookmarks will be presented to the children who were confirmed on the 6^th May.

Many thanks to the leaders in both Ballymac and Tralee who gave their time so generously to the Sunday clubs during the year. I know the children enjoyed their time with them.

Boys' Brigade:

On Sunday morning the 20th May members of the boys brigade ran a car wash in the grounds of Teach an tSolais while their parents enjoyed tea and biscuits in the parish centre.

It was a very fruitful event and raised funds which were divided between the youth club the school and the BB.

Christian Aid:

Instead of a fundraising coffee morning on the 20^th May, we placed collection baskets at the back of each Church to allow parishioners contribute to the work of Christain aid.The amount raised will be reported next week.

Sympathy:

To the family of the late Richard Williams of Ballymacelligott who passed away in Kerry University Hospital on Sunday the 27^th May. His removal and funeral services were held in Ballymacelligott Church followed by burial in the family grave in Ballyseedy churchyard.

We extend our sympathy to his sister Ann and to his brother Douglas, to his cousins and friends.

End of term Service:

To mark the end of the school year will be held in St Johns on Wednesday the 27^th June.

Nine children from sixth class will be moving to secondary school in the Autumn.

CMS Trip to Kenya:

David Tough and Robert Hoffman are going on a CMS Trip to Kenya in July and in preparation for this trip the Revd Roger Thompson from CMS Ireland will preach in Tralee on the 24^th June.

This will be a united service for Tralee and Camp Churches.

Spring Concert:

Queens Island Victoria Male Choir with a special performance by the Kerry Chamber Choir took place on the 19^Th May and they sang at the morning service in Tralee the following morning. Both occasions were were enjoybable, The choir spent the weekend in Tralee and also visited Killarney and Dingle.

They were treated to lunch in teach an tSolais after the morning service. The lunch was produced by the LINKS ladies and Gerhardt Maritz.

Many thanks to Gerhardst who organised the visit from beginning to end.

Book Launch:

All interested parties are invited to the  launch of the book ‘Fr Ferris’s Parish Histories: BallymacElligott, Ballyseedy, O’Brennan and Nohoval’ at Ballygarry House Hotel , Leebrook , Tralee on Thursday 7th June at 7pm.

St Johns National School:

St. Johns Parochial School, Ashe St.: Tralee celebrates 60 years this year.  If anyone has any old photographs of the school and would be willing to lend them,

New Select Vestries:

First of all many thanks to the out going Select Vestries ,Church wardens , Glebe wardens and officers who served our parishes so well in the past year.

Welcome and thankyou to all who have offered their talents and time to the parish for the coming year and a special welcome to those who are new to the select vestries.

A special thankyou to Mary Kinch and Margaret Groves who have stepped down from the Tralee and Ballymacelligott after many years of dedicated and faithful service. Both them have served the parish so well in different roles. Margaret and Mary both served as secretary to the select vestry, Mary also served as treasurer.

Many thanks for your commitment, example and generosity to the parish.

'Notes from The West'

Mary Fagan has recently visited all the churches in the Tralee & Dingle Group of Parishes and her visit to Kilgobbin, Killiney and Dingle was on  Thursday 24th May.  We look forward to hearing about the churches on one of her Horizon Programmes in July/August. Mary has also posted photographs on the Diocese of Kerry Website, so have a look, you could be there!

St. James, Dingle:  Our congratulations to Christopher & Caron Hemingway, who travelled with about 16 friends and family from the UK, for a blessing of their marriage on Saturday 19th May.  Caron first came to Dingle in February this year, to celebrate her friend Tracey's 50th birthday.  She fell in love with Dingle and St. James Church, and felt Dingle would be a magical place to ask God's blessing on their marriage.

Churchwardens/ Volunteers:  A very big thank you to all who look after our churches in so many ways.  Opening and preparing for services, playing the music, cleaning, arranging flowers, cutting the grass – I'm in real danger here of forgetting something or someone but I include you all!  Your time and talents are much appreciated and make our churches places of welcome and friendships.  Thank you.

St. James Restoration:  We are humbled by the generosity of so many who have donated towards the Restoration Fund.  A very special thank you to Marion Hogan who so kindly asked for donations to the fund instead of gifts, when she recently celebrated a special birthday.  The restoration is a huge project which will be on-going for some months/years, but your generosity means we are a step nearer our goal.
