Confirmation Day.

The day has finally arrived and a big welcome to the eleven candidates their families and to our Bishop who will lead the service here in St Johns.

St.Johns Parochial School.

The School celebrates 60 years this year. If anyone has any old photographs of the school and would be willing to lend them, please contact David Tough 087 6428560. 

School Fund Raiser.

The School will be hosting a recycling drive on Thursday, May 17th @ 9.30 am,. For this to be a success and for funding to be secured a minimum quota of bags is required (200kg)Acceptable items include: Men’s, Women’s and Children’s Clothing, Household textiles i.e. Curtains, Towels

Soft Toys, Shoes, Handbags and Belts

The following cannot be accepted: Mobile Phones ,Laptops, Dirty or wet clothing                        

Mats,Carpets,Duvets/Pillows, Books.  Please support this effort.

 

Spring Choir ConcertQueens Island Victoria Male Choir with a special performance by the Kerry Chamber Choir on Saturday will be held on the 19th May 2018 at 7pm in St John’s, Ashe Street, Tralee. €10.00 per ticket Children Free. Ticket sales: 0877950328 or at Church. Proceeds in aid of St. John's Church.

The school held a competition to design a poster for the concert.The winning poster was designed by Kate Feeney and has gone on display. 

Thanks to Gerhardt for organising this and to the school children who participated in the competition. The Ice Cream Van visited to the school as a thankyou to the children for their participation in the poster competition.

Recovery Haven.

On Sunday May 13th in St. John's Church Ashe Street, Kerry Choral Union, conducted by Sharon Reidy, will give a Concert of Choral Music. This Concert, which in aid of Recovery Haven will begin at 7.30pm. A lovely evening of song is guaranteed, with the proceeds going to a very worthy cause. Please come and enjoy.

Prayer Books and Hymn Books.

Reminder that some parishioners who have their own personal hymn or prayer books at home to please remember to bring them to church as we are running low in both Tralee and Ballymac.Thank you.

It has been suggested that parishioners might purchase prayer books in memory of loved ones.If that is your wish we will organise that during the summer, however the books are out of print and reprint may be done following the synod in May.Watch this space.

 

Sunday Club (Sunday School): will be held on the following dates---- 13th May, and 10th June will be last Sunday before the school holidays.

 

Boys' Brigade

The members of the  BB will be washing cars in Teach an tSolais car park on Sunday May 20th from 10.15 to 12.30 all money raised will go to our parish activities (BB, youth club, etc) The cost to wash your car is €5.00. So please bring your car along on Sunday May 20th and we will do the rest!

The BB organised a family walk in Glennageety last Sunday. Everyone enjoyed the walk except for the hail stones shower! A barbecue was enjoyed by all afterwards. Thanks to Collette, Rory and the other BB Leaders for organising this.

Links Ladies:

The final meeting for this season will be a makeup party. The scheduled

weekend away in May 19th has been cancelled until September as it would clash with the

concert in St John's.

Walking the Camino.

Please pray for our dear Rev Phyllis as she walks the Camino Way to raise money for St. James Church in Dingle. Tea and Coffee Rota St John’s.

Fellowship: we all appreciate the opportunity for fellowship after Sunday Service in St. John's, Ashe St., a very welcome cup of tea and a chat, especially for those of us who live alone. We now appeal to some kind parishioners who would be willing to make the tea as the usual volunteers would like some help. Please consider offering to do this some Sunday, put your name on the rota and earn everyone's gratitude.

Christian AidOn Sunday 27th May parishioners will be asked to donate to this worthy cause by paying a contribution for out tea or coffee after Service in St. John's, Ashe St.

 

Sympathy:

To the family of the late William Leslie of Kilfynn who passed away in Kerry University Hospital on Friday 6th April. His removal and funeral services were held in Ballymacelligott Church followed by burial in the family grave in Ballyseedy churchyard.

We extend our sympathy to his wife Nora, his daughters Louise and Davina and to his son

James.

To the family of the late Evelyn Kelly, Evelyn passed away on Thursday 19th April . Èvelyn and her late husband Cyril returned from the UK to be near her daughter Jackie and their family . They worshipped in St Johns where they were much loved and held in high esteem.

Her funeral service was held in St Johns Ashe street, followed by cremation in Cork.

We extend our sympathy to her daughter Jackie Ruttledge and her family in Tralee and to her son Paul and his family in the UK.

 

To the Family of the Late Victor Boyle of Castlemaine, Victor became unwell and died at his home on Sunday the 29th April. Victor lived a long, productive and full life and had just completed building a new glass house with his daughter on the Friday before he died. His funeral service was held in Castlemaine followed by burial in the church grounds.

We extend our sympathy to his daughters Sheena, Ingrid and Jane to his sons Richard,David and Andrew and all their families. To his brothers Autie, Richie,George, Ernie and Alfie.

 

To all who are coming terms with loss of a loved one, be assured, we will remember you and your loved one in the prayers of the church and we will invite you to our All Saints tide service of light during November.
