Holy Strollers
Apr 5th sees the Holy Strollers heading to the Gap of Dunloe to do a beautiful walk from there. The route starts on road, then onto a rocky track which gradually deteriorates as you get closer to the top (highest point is 450 mts). Hiking boots are necessary for this outing as are appropriate clothing for the weather on the day. Raincoat is a must no matter what…!!!
Meeting at Teach an tSolais at 10am - please phone Olive (086 3102577) to let her know numbers and enable car-pooling.
Alternatively - if you prefer to stay independent - meet at the Gap of Dunloe car park (at Kate Kearney’s Cottage) at 10.45am.
Sympathy
To Simon, Susie, Cillian and Jennifer Keating on the death of Simon's father Sam Keating,
His funeral was held in St Johns Castle Street followed by burial in New Rath Cemetery
To Neal, Jo, Gavin, Ross and Adam Peevers on the death of Jo’s mother Josephine Cross in Limerick. Her funeral was held in St John’s Cathedral followed by burial in Mount St Lawerance cemetery.
To Ann Williams and her extended family on the death of her brother Douglas Williams. Douglas is the last of the Williams family to live in Ballymac.
His funeral service was held in Ballymac Church on Saturday the 28th March and it was also an opportunity to give thanks for the Williams family and all that they contributed to Ballymacelligott Community and to the Church of Ireland parish which was so important to them.
Douglas was laid to rest in Ballyseedy churchyard in the family plot.
ST JOHN'S SPIRITUAL TOURISM PROJECT
We are very fortunate to now have Kathleen Brosnan working with us as a part-time tour guide in St John's. The church is currently open on Fridays and Saturdays from 12pm to 4pm with Kathleen present to welcome visitors and show them around. As well as guiding, Kathleen works in the background helping to promote awareness of St John's both online and in the locality. While the current opening times will be in place until Easter, it is proposed to increase the hours as we approach the coming tourist season. This means we will again need people to volunteer as guides. Last year we had a wonderful team who gave their time so generously and we hope that the arrangement will work equally well this year. If you haven't already done so and would like to get involved please let Olive know. St John's is now listed on TripAdvisor and it will be important to encourage visitors to add reviews. We are also working on getting included on sites such as Discover Kerry. Our hope is to gradually build on this initiative year by year and we look forward to the season ahead.
Mothering Sunday was observed in the various churches, Daffodils were given to all in recognition of their mothering qualities. The daffodils were sourced in Killarney and the proceeds go to Daffodil day. It was an opportunity to give thanks for all who Mother us.
Parishioners in Hospital
Due to privacy rules and GDPR it’s not possible to ask in hospitals anymore for a list of C of I patients. I am happy to visit any parishioner in any of the hospitals and care homes in the wider parish area. The provision of pastoral care to Church of Ireland patients in the hospitals such as UHK and the BONS is part of my role. I work closely with the full-time chaplains, but please let me know if you or a loved one would like a visit or indeed if anyone known to you would like a visit.
