Sympathy,

To Mary Kinch on the death of her sister Sarah Smith in Trim County Meath. Her funeral service was held in the Cathedral in Trim.

To Vivien Sugrue and her family on the death of her son Brenden in Tralee. Brendans funeral took place in St Johns castle street and he was buried in Clogher burial ground Ballymacelligott.

To Marion Hogan on the death of her sister Elizabeth Bird in Castleconnell.

To Betty Groves and her family on the death of her aunt Vera Bennett in Mountrath.

To Adrian and Diane King and family on the death of Trevor Mills -Smith in Tournafulla.

A short funeral service to celebrate and give thanks for Trevor’s life was conducted in Allen’s funeral home Rock chapel. Trevor and his late wife jean were such a lovely couple and travelled twice weekly from Tournafulla to St Johns for both the Wednesday and Sunday service.

Since Jeans death a few years ago his stepson Adrian and his wife Diane brought him each Sunday to Tralee.

Trevor and Jean were a wonderful example of faithfulness.

Christingle On the fifth Sunday a united service was held in the Tralee, during which we focussed on the Christingle or Christ light. An Orange, a lighted candle, red ribbon, fruits, tin foil and sweets are central to the illustration.

In Tralee and Dingle, we try and celebrate Christingle around the feast of Candlemass which falls on 2nd February. Traditionally on Candlemass day, candles were blessed to be used throughout the year for many different occasions. Candles are also used in homes to create ambiance and atmosphere.

From a faith perspective, lighted candle have always represented the light of Christ. We live in a world that is at times darkened by selfish forces. We believe that the light of Christ is powerful and strong enough to wipe out all forms of darkness. The Christingle reminds us to invite God’s light into our lives.

It was great to welcome many of our young people and their parents to the service and it was lovely to have so many of them read and take part.

The Christingles were made during the service and many thanks to Olive who coordinated all of this. She was ably assisted by Crystal and Lizzy on the day.

As someone who sees faith as important, the following quotation resonated with me.

‘The most important thing in life is to have stability and an anchor. If you have nothing in life to hold you in place, you’re like a ship at the mercy of the tides. You could end up drifting anywhere.’ ~John Harris
