Sympathy
To Simon, Susie, Cillian and Jennifer Keating on the death of Simons mother Carmel in January,
Her funeral was held in St Johns Castle Street followed by burial in New Rath Cemetery
Confirmation enrolment.
We begin the confirmation preparation with a service of welcome on the 16th February in St Johns at 10.45am. Classes will begin in Teach an tSolais on 27th February at 6pm.
Wednesday Holy Communion.
This is held every Wednesday in St Johns at 11am and is followed by fellowship in the Ashe Hotel afterwards.
For those who are working or otherwise occupied on Sunday this service can provide an opportunity to connect with the Church and share at the lord’s table.
All are welcome.
Candlemass
This feast will be celebrated with the school in St Johns church on the 5th February.
Traditionally on Candlemass Day candles were and are blessed in many churches, which will then be used for ceremonies throughout the year.
Congratulations to Alex Hofmann who was officially appointed to as Diocesan Chancellor at the Diocesan Synod on the 19th October.
He was subsequently appointed by the Standing Committee of the General Synod on the 19th of November as a Lay Judge of the Court of the General Synod.
St Brigid.
Saint Brigid Day is celebrated on the 1st February Brigid has been described as a woman of faith, a practical and wise woman, a farmer, a convent founder and a miracle worker. She is one of our patron saints. Brigid has inspired women and men down through the ages. She cared for the poor, healed the sick and managed monastic settlements.
She was way ahead of her time with her outlook on life, her ideas and her vision for an inclusive church.
And very importantly She has also given us a bank holiday.
Select Vestry
The Tralee and Ballymacelligott Select Vestry will meet in Teach an tSolais on the 27th February at 7.30pm.
Bishop Michael.
As part of his regular visitations around the Diocese, The Bishop will visit Ballyseedy and Ballymacelligott on Sunday the 23rd February, he will celebrate Holy Communion in both Churches.
There will be an opportunity to chat with him over a cup of tea after the service in Ballyseedy.
Honesty Table.
In the autumn a new wrought iron gate was manufactured to replace the old black door which has separated the Rectory/Car Park and the church grounds as long as anyone can remember.
The concrete barge over the door was removed to give more head height.
This was organised by Mona and funded by the ‘Honesty Table’
The Honesty table has funded many an improvement in St Johns as well as supporting the Sunday Club and Confirmation preparation over the years.
Many thanks to those who contribute to the honesty table and to Mona who looks after it.
Parishioners in Hospital
Due to privacy rules and GDPR it’s not possible to ask in hospitals anymore for a list of C of I patients. I am happy to visit any parishioner in any of the hospitals and care homes in the wider parish area. The provision of pastoral care to Church of Ireland patients in the hospitals such as UHK and the BONS is part of my role. I work closely with the full-time chaplains, but please let me know if you or a loved one would like a visit or indeed if anyone known to you would like a visit.
