Sympathy
To Pastor Mike and Rita on the death of Rita’s sister Mary in the US.
We also remember the Smith Camp late of Camp on the death of the Rev Declan.
Declan was a son of Camp Rectory and served overseas with CMS and in later years as a Rector in Co Wicklow.
To the friends and cousins of the late Íde Máire Teo (née Roycroft) formerly of Ballymacelligott Rectory who died in Cork recently.
We assure all these families of our prayers at this very sad time.
Other Voices
Other Voices are back in St James at the end of the month.
Built Heritage Grant,
We were delighted to learn that we will receive €9575 from this fund towards the renovation of the windows in St James Dingle. We will be consulting with the architect and craftsman on what windows are most in need of repair. The renovation of the windows will take time and hopefully we will be successful in future applications to this fund.
Lent
Lent will begin with the celebration of the Holy Communion in St Johns at 11am and in Kilgobbin at 7pm on Ash Wednesday.
The children form the school will also share in a joint service with the pupils of Kiltallagh National School in Castlemaine in Kiltallagh Church.
Our Confirmation classes will be held during LENT and we also look forward to celebrating mothering Sunday on the 15th March and then a visit from the Bishop to Tralee on the 22nd March.
Bishops Peregrinations.
Our Lenten appeal this year will focus around three projects that the bishop has chosen.
One third will go to support the farm charity Embrace which supports farm families where there is a crisis such as a sudden death, life changing accident or suicide.
The other third will go to support the work of Bishops Appeal for its work with the Anglican Diocese of Jerusalem which has a long association providing health care in Gaza (Which we supported at harvest) and Tear fund.
The remaining third will be earmarked for emergency funding where need is immediate.
His visit to the Tralee and Dingle group will be to Tralee on Wednesday 4th March at 13.30. The bishop hopes that vintage equipment cars etc can be gathered for the occasion.
The visit will be short and it will include the sing of the hymn ‘For the Beauty of the Earth’ No 350 Tune England Lane.
Bishops Appeal envelopes will be available throughout Lent until the Sunday after Easter at which point we will send what we have gathered to the bishop.
All Ireland Club Football Championships.
Three clubs in our parish area, Ballymacelligott, Dingle and Gaeltacht all made their way to the finals of the Junior, Intermediate and Senior Club championship in Croke successfully returning with All Ireland medals.
This brought much joy and excitement to the various clubs and their supporters in the middle of January,
Congratulations and well done to them all and a remarkable achievement for football in Kerry.
Access to Ballyseedy Church.
Many thanks to Autie Flynn who very kindly manufactured a ramp to make access easier and safer to Ballyseedy Church
Chapter Rota
As part of the Chapter Rota, I will be swapping with the Dean of Killaloe on the 15th February.
Richard will celebrate the Holy Communion in Tralee and I will do the same in St Flannan’s in Killaloe.
Prayer for those who are unwell,
Heavenly father we prayer for those who are unwell. Help them to know your love that they may seek strength from you and find peace and healing in your presence; through Jesus Christ our Lord, Amen.
Candlemas Day:
This is celebrated on 2nd February and marks the return of light, a symbol of protection. It commemorates the presentation of Jesus at the Temple of Jerusalem, referring to him as the light of the people of Israel. Candles which were used in the liturgies were traditionally blessed on this day for use throughout year.
We are called to bring Christ light in the shape of consideration and goodness with us where ever we go.
