With our Sympathy

To Shirley and Mark McEvoy on the death of Marks younger sister Lorraine just before Easter. Lorraine was only in her thirties and she died unexpectedly .It was a terrible shock to her two young sons and to her parents and the extended family. Her Funeral mass took place in St Johns Castle Street.

Féile Na Bealtaine is wonderful weekend during which large crowds come to Dingle. St James Church is at the heart of this festival and it will host a number of concerts.

This year we had a Bi Lingual service in St James at 11am on the 30th April, this was a united service for the camp and Dingle part of the parish. The church with visitors from Camp and Tralee and from overseas. Many thanks to all who [participated in the act of worship which was mainly in English with Irish anois agus aris.

There is always such a buzz around Dingle that weekend.

Holy Week and Easter

Thank you to all who attended and supported the Holy Week and Easter services and to the Readers who led the services in Ballyseedy on the Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday of Holy Week.

Our churches were all tastefully decorated and prepared so thank you to all who gave of their time and talent to this important ministry.

Family /All age service 28th May at 10.45am St Johns

The next service will be held on the feast of Penetcost and we are encouraging everyone to be present for this celebration. Pentecost marks the birthday of the Church.

Holy Strollers.

The walking group met in the Blasket centre on Sunday the 30th for a walk around the area which included where Ryans daughter was filmed over 50 years ago.

Thanks again to Olive who has organised this and to Linda who led the walk and shared her knowledge of the area so generously with us.

We live in such a beautiful place and everytime I am out and about in nature the words of the hymn come to mind. ‘O lord my God when I in awesome wonder consider all the work thy hands had made’   More walks are planned.

Easter Vestries have been held and new committees have been elected. Thank you to those who serve our parish so well.

Clean up in Ballymacelligott.

A clean up of the grounds and church is organised for this Saturday the 6th May beginning at 10am.

Ascension Day

This will be marked in Tralee and Dingle with a service that will involve the school on Thursday the 18th at 11am in St Johns.

Rogation.

Rogation days are those days prior to the ascension when we are asked to pray for all those involved in growing crops, tending animals ,producing our food and delivering it to shops and restaurants for our consumption. I just marvel at all the logistics that are involved from seed to table.

One just has to stand in one of our large supermarkets where food comes from all over the world and the detailed planning and organisation that is involved to ensure that the right quantity gets to every  shop in the network at the optimum quality and  just at the right time.

So let us remember and give thanks for  the ingenuity of the many hands and minds that make this possible.

Tourism outreach St Johns

It’s hoped to circulate information on St Johns to the tourist office and to the various hotels so that we can open the Church on a limited basis during the week.

Volunteers needed. Please contact Olive Flynn @086 3102577 if you are available to offer an hour or two of your time once in awhile.

Bishops Visit,

Bishop Michael will visit the parish on the morning of the 21st May, he will celebrate Holy Communion in Ballyseedy and Ballymacelligott. There will be an opportunity to chat with the Bishop over a cup of tea in the Ballyseedy garden centre between the services.

Administration of Holy Communion

On St Patricks Day the house of Bishops sent a letter to all clergy to inform them that the dispensation which had been given during covid to administer the wine in individual cups would expire on the feast of Pentecost.

We will be returning to administration of the wine from the common cup from then.

Those who remain nervous about receiving from the common cup should be

respected, and they should receive in one kind only, with an assurance that the Church teaches

that the sacrament can be fully received in one kind

People who are the victims of infections that involve coughing and sneezing should

probably think twice before coming to church, and certainly out of courtesy to others should show

gracious restraint in not seeking to receive from the common cup

We ask that communicants do not themselves intinct (dip) the consecrated bread they have

received in the wine. This is based on clear medical advice - intinction can spread infection from

fingers to the wine, and crumbs of bread left in the wine can be problematical for other people who wish to receive it, eg coeliacs.
