Harvests

We will gather to celebrate and give thanks for the harvest in Tralee on the morning of the 16th October at 10.45am. The speaker will be Mr Sean Lyons and the collection will be for CMS. Then in the afternoon at 3pm in Kilgobbin our speaker will be Martha Farrell of the Maharees regeneration, it will be interesting to hear from her as they care for and protect this very precious  part of God’s creation. The service in Killgobbin will be followed by tea in the old school in Camp Village.

Both services will be united services for their respective areas and please support these two services..

Christian Aid fund raising walk. Many thanks

This has become a fixture of the Tralee and Dingle autumn schedule and began three years ago when Andrew Coleman of Christian Aid asked the Rector if something similar to the Sheep’s head walk could be done in Kerry.

This walk took place on the 17th September in Glanageenty, Ballymacelligott, when a good group of parishioners and friends gathered on a beautiful autumn morning. The walk through the woods and glens was most enjoyable and great credit must go to John Linehan who developed the walk-in association with Leader. The walk is punctuated with seating areas, viewing points and signage displaying local history, flora and fauna. Its well worth a trip if you have not walked it before. there are three loops and we followed the Linehan loop and the views were stunning.

Almost €1200 was raised for Christian Aid.

Many thanks to all who supported this walk and donated so generously. It was a lovely occasion and

Some of the party retired to O’Riadas in Ballymac after the walk for refreshments.

Wedding.

It was a delight to be able to celebrate with Jim Bailey and Jackie Wharton on the day of their marriage in St Johns Church Ashe Street on the 28th September. The service in the church was followed by a meal in Ballyseedy Castle Hotel. We wish them every happiness in their married life together.

Birth

Congratulations to Canon Robert and Vera Warren on the birth of their granddaughter Kezia in Dublin to Sarah and Ciaran.

To Tom Blennerhassett on the birth of his granddaughter Amelia also in Dublin to Jonathan and Annmarie.

Pastoral Support Worker.

I am delighted to announce that Olive Flynn has taken up this part time role.

She will assist and support the Rector in his work.

Ballymacelligott Church.

The third and hopefully the final piece of work for a while has been done on Ballymacelligott Church.

The tower was repointed last year which has ensured that the tower and the back wall have been waterproofed.

Then earlier this summer we had the unexpected collapse of a portion of the boundary wall , this has been rebuilt and the final piece of work was the replacement of gutters and down pipes on the north side of the Church, this work was carried out by John Flynn.

None of this work could have been done without the generosity of a parishioner and former parishioner and grants from the Dept of Heritage via Kerry County Council.

Donations are always welcome as we seek to maintain these Churches for the future. There is always more work to be done.

Hopefully we will have a service of Thanksgiving at some stage to recognise and acknowledge the good work that has been done to date.

Sympathy.

We express our sympathy to :

Lizzy Denault on the death of her husband Graham Denault . Graham was a faithful attender in St Johns Ashe Street for many years. Lizzy and Graham are originally from Bristol in the UK and settled in Kilmoyley where Graham spent many happy hours gardening and enjoying the beauty and peace of that lovely place. He was a regular and generous contributor to the vegetable stall at the Christmas Fair.  Grahams funeral will take place in St Johns this Saturday (1st October) at 11am, burial will follow in Kilmoyley.

The Roche Family of Banna, Ardfert on the death of Marie Roche. We will continue to think of her husband James and her children Shona, Ayesha, Aisling, Nico, Niketta & Jason. Marie is remembered as a wonderful mother and wife, always doing her best for her children. Her funeral took place in St Johns Ashe Street on Saturday 17th September.

The family of the late Virginia O’Sullivan of Ballymacelligott. Virginia’s funeral took place in St Johns Ashe Street on the 27th September.

4th October Feast of St Francis of Assisi

Tuesday the Oct 4th is the feast of St. Francis and he is one of those rare saints who has managed to capture the attention and admiration of the entire world. His life has inspired people of all ages and the appeal of this saint, cuts across national boundaries and religious differences. He is most famous for his respect towards God, his simple life and his tender love and attention to all creation.

'Lord, make me an instrument of your peace. Where there is hatred, let me sow love. Where there is injury, pardon. Where there is doubt, faith. Where there is despair, hope. Where there is darkness, light and where there is sadness, joy.' ~St. Francis Of Assisi
