The Rose of Tralee.

It was great that the festival was back as good as ever for the town of Tralee and equally wonderful that some Roses, their escorts and families joined the congregation in St Johns for the morning service.

This year we were joined by the Rose of Tralee 2022, the Kerry Rose and the New York Rose who went on to win the title later in the week.

We were delighted to welcome Aidan O’Carroll and the Kerry Chamber Choir.

Mr Anthony O’Gara CEO of the Festival and Ms Norma Foley TD who both read the scripture readings.

Many thanks to all who contributed to the service and to the refreshments in teach an tSolais afterwards.

Opening of St Johns.

Thanks again to all those who kept St Johns open for visitors during the Summer and esp. during the festival, it’s always surprising at the number of people who come and more surprising again are the number of locals who arrive and have never had the opportunity to visit before.

This year we had our new visitor sign in place at the entrance to the church and various tourism literature available in the church for visitors.

Christian Aid fund raising walk will take place on Saturday 16th September.

It will begin at 11am in the carpark opposite Bensenville Windmill. Donations can be made online, or on day or to Rev Jim who will have envelopes available. The walk will continue out towards the Lock gate and on towards the cricket grounds looping through the village and returning via the foreshore to Bensenville again.

Appropriate clothing and footwear should be worn, please bring a drink and some snacks.

Harvests

The first of our Harvest Thanksgiving services will take place in St Johns on Sunday Morning the 24th of September. This will be a united service. The speaker will be Ms Lousie Quill founder of Tír na nÓg Childrens foundation in Tanzania.

The Camp and Dingle Harvest will be held in Kilgobbin Church on the 8th October at 3pm in the afternoon.

Return to School, College and Training

We congratulate all those who have received their leaving cert results recently as they take their next steps to college, training, work  or to a year out.

We wish all those starting both primary and secondary school every good wish as they begin and continue their educational journey.

Chapter Swap.

The Very Rev Niall Sloane Dean of Limerick will celebrate Holy Communion in Tralee and Ballymacelligott on the 17th September and I will be in St Marys limerick on that occasion.

This is something Niall has begun since his appointment to Limerick as he encourages the chapter canons to preach in the cathedral.

Congratulations:

To Robert and Susan Blennerhassett on the birth of their second grandchild Daire, who was born to Emer and Dan who live in limerick.

To Sam Kiwanuka who has successfully completed his four-degree course in nursing at MTU. This is a wonderful personal achievement for Samuel and his family.

Sam managed to do the course while working part time and looking after his family at the same time.

Parishioners in Hospital

If you or someone known to you is in any of the hospitals in Tralee, please let me know.

At present and because of GDPR the hospitals are not allowed to give patients names.

I will only be too happy to visit, as part of my job is to provide pastoral care to Church of Ireland patients in the hospitals. UHK and the BONS.
