Mid-week Services –
Holy Communion each Wednesday at 11.00am in St. John's Church, followed by
coffee and fellowship in the Ashe Hotel.
Healer Prayer Group:
The group meets on the first Tuesday of every month at 8.00pm in Teach an
tSolais. The names of those who have asked for prayer will be remembered.
Books where names can be entered are provided in each church.
All are welcome to this short service which is followed by light
refreshments and fellowship.
Harvest Thanksgiving Services:
All three services were well attended and the Churches were decorated to a
very high standard. The collections will be donated to charity, as was the
fruit that was presented during the services. Many thanks to our three
preachers -
Sylvia Thompson, Fr Donal O Connor and Rev Tom Sherlock, and to all
who did so much to prepare and decorate our churches, as we came together to
give thanks to God for the Harvest and to pray for those less fortunate than
ourselves.
Many thanks to all those in our parishes who did so much to make our harvest
celebrations so special.
Dingle Food Festival:
As part of the Dingle Food Festival, cookery demonstrations were held in St.
James Church by local chefs, using local produce.
We were proud to be part of this long-standing Festival which is
organised and run entirely by local volunteers. People countrywide attend
the Festival and many were welcomed into the church over the weekend.
Dingle Christian Fellowship:
The group continue to meet in St James’ Church each Sunday at 6pm for Bible
study, worship and prayer. Recently they were joined by the Gospel Trio
'Simple Faith' which attracted 30 visitors. A collection was made and
donated to the St James’ Restoration Fund. We are delighted to share this
special sacred place with other Christians.
Congratulations:
to
Alfie and Myrtle Boyle who celebrated their golden wedding anniversary
recently, and to Mona Butler on becoming a great grand-mother; to Linda
Woods and her company, 'Ireland Walk, Hike and Bike', who were nominated and
came joint second at the Kerry business awards night in Tralee. They were
nominated under the category, Heritage and Environment, who followed Amy’s
journey with the other Kerry Rose hopefuls as they did their stuff on stage
with Daithi O’Shea. Amy's party piece was dancing to Abba's Dancing Queen
and she was sponsored by Pamela Scott.
Everest Base Camp:
Congratulations
to John Lenihan and Victor Blennerhassett from Ballymacelligott parish and
Tommy Downs from Rathkeale, together with their friends John Lyons,
Mary Patwell and Eileen Deanley, who successfully reached the Everest base
camp on the 26th October.
St. Johns Church, Tralee:
St John’s has been very tastefully
painted in recent weeks; this was coordinated by Mona who did a splendid
job, thank you Mona. We also
owe a huge debt of thanks to the Lions club for their support.
Without the generosity of these people, this project would not have
been possible.
Christmas Fair:
The Christmas Fair will be held in
Teach an tSolais on Saturday the 16th December from 10am until
4pm. This is a valuable fundraising and community building event and all
parishioners are urged to support this by donating goods for the stalls and
by supporting the event on the day.
We appeal to all those talented people who
knit, crochet, or bake, please! Anyone who is willing to help please talk to
Mona.
Honesty Table:
St John's Honesty Table has paid for recarpeting the church, buying Bibles
for Confirmation Candidates, replaced bulbs and general upkeep, among other
Parish expenses. Please support it through donating and buying. Thank you.
Parish Finances:
At a recent Select Vestry meeting in
Tralee it was reported that the parish finances are in a critical condition
and getting worse by the week.
A finance committee has been set up to address this problem.
In essence this will be tackled in two ways, a request for increased
giving by parishioners and fund raising events.
A letter will be going out to each parishioner in the near future to
highlight the difficulties in more detail and we would ask you that you take
time to consider these problems and what you can do for your parish to help
alleviate this issue.
Youth Club:
The Youth Club has had its first
meeting in Teach and tSolais on the 14th October, under the
leadership of Gerhardt Maritz, assisted by the Rev Jim and parents. We will
meet monthly and we would love to see more young people join us in the age
group 1st year second level (post confirmation) up to and
including age 15: We have ten members so far!
All Saints Tide:
A Family service will be held in St
Johns, Ashe Street on Sunday the 12th November to remember loved
one who have died. Candles will be lit in memory of those who died recently
and the Sunday Club have provided a memory tree, with cards on which we can
write the names of loved ones we wish to remember.
Hospital:
any Parishioners who have a hospital stay should be sure that they are
recorded as Cof I or Cof E so that the Hospital Chaplain or Clergy can be
informed. Patient
confidentiality regulations mean that information cannot be passed to anyone
without patient consent.
Links Ladies:
In October, Links ladies enjoyed a wonderful
Sunday afternoon together
when we toured Killarney house. Unfortunately the weather did not permit a
walk in the gardens but we did enjoy a leisurely afternoon tea in the
International Hotel. Our November meeting will take the form of a movie
evening, title to be advised. This will be on
Tues 28th at 8pm in Teach an
tSolais. (Please note change of day to
TUESDAY). We will also take
time that evening to plan for the forthcoming sale of work, during which
LINKS will again take responsibility for the catering.
As always everyone is welcome to join us for any of our meetings.
Mission Opportunity in Kenya 2018:
CMS Ireland has two exciting opportunities to participate in Mission teams
