A Service of the Word for the Fourth Sunday of Easter

Welcome, You are all very welcome as we gather for worship many of you in your homes on this the fourth Sunday of Easter. it’s a privilege to be able to share this time with you.

THE GREETING

Alleluia! Christ is risen. He is risen indeed. Alleluia!

PRAYER

Lord Jesus Christ, risen from death to life in the Father’s love, raise us to share in this new life, that we may know your presence among us now, and serve you in the power of the Spirit. Amen.

PENITENCE

Jesus said to them, ‘Very truly, I tell you, I am the gate for the sheep. Whoever enters by me will be saved, and will come in and go out and find pasture. I came that they may have life, and have it abundantly.’

Let us confess our sins to God our father.

Lord when we fail, you give us new life

Lord have mercy, Lord have mercy

Lord when we stumble you raise us up,

Christ have mercy, Christ have mercy

Lord in our weakness you are our strength

Lord have mercy, Lord have mercy

The priest pronounces the absolution:

Stand

Lift up your hearts.

We lift them up to the Lord.

Let us give thanks to the Lord our God.

It is right to give him thanks and praise.

We give you thanks, our God and Father,

for you have created us and you sustain us.

Through your only Son Jesus Christ

you have revealed your love and your care for all your people;

you are ready to forgive and to save in time of need;

so we proclaim your glory, saying

Holy, holy, holy Lord,

God of power and might,

Heaven and earth are full of your glory.

Hosanna in the highest.

THE MINISTRY OF THE WORD

Collect of the Day

God of all power, you called from death our Lord Jesus,
the great shepherd of the sheep:
send us as shepherds to rescue the lost, to heal the injured,
and to feed one another with understanding;
through your Son, Jesus Christ our Lord,
who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit,
one God, now and for ever.

AFFIRMATION OF FAITH

Do you believe and trust in God the Father,

creator of heaven and earth?

I believe and trust in him.

Do you believe and trust in his Son Jesus Christ,

who redeemed the world?

I believe and trust in him.

Do you believe and trust in the Holy Spirit

who gives life to the people of God?

I believe and trust in him.

This is the faith of the Church.

This is our faith.

We believe and trust in one God,

Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.

Intercessions

Let us Pray

Jesus offers us the possibility of having life and having it abundantly if we will only follow him. Let us come into God’s presence and listen for his voice speaking to us in love.

Church: During this time of isolation, let us pray that our community remains strong in our faith and increasingly aware of your guidance.  Help us to be able to talk about our beliefs more freely as we encourage others through these challenging times.  Ensure we remember each other in fellowship, as we look forward to the time we can worship together again.

Lord in your Mercy……….

World: Make all the world hear the voice of the Good Shepherd and turn from wrong-doing.  Let this time of “lock-down” around the world make each of us more honest to ourselves and to each other as we realise what is really important in our world – love and respect for one another.  Guide our leaders to push wealth and economies to one side as they continue to ensure that health and well being of people is more necessary & rewarding.

Lord in your Mercy……….

Community: Surround our homes, hospitals, nursing homes, surgeries and places of care in your love.  Strengthen our desire to ensure we continue to care for one another by remaining in isolation and adhering to all guidelines, to lead us all to better health and greater happiness in the future.

Lord in your Mercy……….

Sick: We pray for all those who may be sick at this time especially thinking of Sara Fort as she continues to receive her rigorous treatment in Dublin.  Give strength to all who are suffering from sickness, mental trauma, loneliness or abuse.  Wrap them in your love and comfort them in their times of need, knowing that people are praying for them & willing them to better health.

Lord in your Mercy……….

Departed:  We remember all those who have died recently, especially those who have died without a loved one near them.  Comfort those who have lost a family member or close friend and give them faith that God, our Shepherd, leads us through the door of death & into the door of life prepared by the Resurrection of Christ.  Grant them eternal life.

Lord in your Mercy……….

We offer our prayers in the name of Jesus Christ, the great Shepherd of his sheep. Amen.

The Lords prayer:

Thanksgiving

Almighty God we thank you, for all that we enjoy, for the beauty of the world, for the wonder of life, and for the mystery of love, for the blessing of family and friends, and for the loving care which surrounds us on every side.

Above all, we thank you for your Son Jesus Christ;

for the truth of his Word and the example of his life;

for his steadfast obedience, by which he overcame temptation;

for his dying, through which he overcame death;

and for his rising to life, in which we are raised to the life of your kingdom.

Grant us the gift of your Spirit so that we may know him and make him known. Amen.

Be with us Lord, as we go out into the world.
May the lips that have sung your praise always speak the truth;
may the ears which have heard your Word listen only to what is good and may our lives as well as our worship be always pleasing in your sight, for the glory of Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

THE BLESSING

The Lord bless you and watch over you,

The lord makes his face to shine upon you
